Gibbs Quadski Amphibious ATV
Normally amphibians are no-fun-to-drive, six-wheeled military vehicles that are designed for functionality than driving fun. The only other option for us to have a cheap amphibian vehicle was to build one ourselves, like the trio Clarkson, Hammond and May did in Top Gear. Michigan-based Gibbs Sports has created an innovative amphibious vehicle called the Gibbs Quadski.
The Quadski is a unique amphibian that can reach speeds of up to 45 mph on both water and land and transition between two roles takes just few seconds. It is basically an ATV than can travel on both land and water. While on water, the four wheels fold inside à la Gibbs Aquada, a high speed amphibious vehicle developed by the same company.
The Quadski is powered by a 1.3-liter inline four-cylinder engine K1300 engine by BMW Motorrad that makes 140 hp and 87 pound-feet of torque. On surface, the power is delivered to the rear wheels via a 5-speed transmission with a button-operated shifter on the left side of the handlebar. On water, the engine is coupled with a patented water jet propulsion system.
